Warren Consolidated Schools
The School Nutrition team at Warren Consolidated Schools has gone above and beyond to ensure that all students can access healthy meals. In the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, meal pickup was offered for a few hours mid-day. Learning this was a limitation for some families, distribution hours were extended from 6 AM to 6 PM and participation increased significantly. Three pickup sites now offer 5 days of meals at a time, including breakfast and lunch. In a typical week, Warren Consolidated distributes over 50,000 meals to students in the community, including ½ a gallon of white milk and two pints of chocolate milk – a school weeks’ worth of milk – for each student.
The staff has worked tirelessly and creatively to ensure students are fed regardless of the setting. At the beginning of October, Warren Consolidated was in a fully remote learning environment, but food service is proactively considering options to best serve students once they return to in-person education. There is no doubt; parents in the district can be certain that their children will have a nutritious meal ready for them, no matter their learning environment.
