Take Heart with Dairy
The month of February celebrates heart health, so show yourself some love with dairy and plants! ย
Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women, affecting 1 in 4 people in the United States. Heart disease can refer to several types of serious conditions, including coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, and heart failure.ย
Take Charge
With good nutrition, you can reduce your risk of developing heart disease. In a study conducted at Harvard School of Public Health, researchers found that a diet high in plant-based proteins was linked to a lower risk of heart disease related death. Researchers emphasized substituting one serving of red meat each day with dairy products, lean meats like chicken and salmon, nuts, whole grains, or beans.
These alternatives provide healthy fats, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that are protective of the bodyโs cells. Some individuals may find that the โplant-forwardโ way of eating works well for them and helps to build better habits while providing those health benefits. Plant Forward
Choosing more plant foods does not mean giving up meat products cold turkey (pun intended). Rather, it is a celebration of adding plant-based foods and dairy items to create a well-rounded way of eating. You can still enjoy favorites, like pasta, including our Pasta and Chicken in Garlic Cream Sauce. Or, enjoy sandwiches, like Cheesy Roasted Veggie Pockets, with a combination vegetables, cheese and unique flavors!ย
Heart health includes conscious healthfulย eatingย and the first step is choosing plant-based and dairy options to incorporate onto your plate and into your lifestyle. What are you adding to your plate for heart health?ย
