Take Action! What Can You Do to Help End Hunger?
September is Hunger Action Month. It’s a time to come together to raise awareness and take action to help end hunger.
When it comes to food, lots of people are faced with endless choices: take-out, home-cooked meals, dining out, or even food delivery. For many others, the only choice they’re faced with is having to choose between daily meals and other critical needs such as medicine, monthly bills, or even childcare.
The pandemic has forced more people into making this difficult choice. As many as 1 in 6 adults and 1 in 4 children may be experiencing food insecurity. During the pandemic, people have faced even greater hardship due to additional lack of resources such as job loss, increased childcare expenses from school shutdowns and much more.
So, what can you do to help in the fight against hunger this month? Text DONATE to 1-517-300-3909 or visit this website to help contribute towards purchasing milk for Michigan’s food banks. Milk is one of the top three requested items at food banks, yet most families only receive one gallon of milk per year. You can’t have cereal or even make mac and cheese without milk, so one gallon per year is just not sustainable. And milk provides a unique package of 13 essential nutrients, including high –quality protein, just not found in other foods.
Food should not be an impossible choice. Let’s take action and use our voices to raise awareness and make a strong impact not only this month, but every month in the fight against hunger.
