Showmanship Award
This is the heifer I showed for showmanship at our county 4-H Fair. Showmanship is where you compete against other showmen and whoever does the best wins. The judges are ranking the showmen, not the animals. In showmanship the judge looks to see how you set the cow or heifer up, how you treat her while showing, how well you cleaned and clipped the animal and how well you know your animal. This year I won my showmanship class.
My heifer was born on December 10, 2009. Her registered name is Lorena, but I call her Edith. (My sisters and I try to come up with a “theme” for our fair animals. Last year we each named one of our dairy animals after the three girls in “Despicable Me” — Agnes, Edith and Margo. Lorena is her official registered name, but I like calling her Edith.)
She is due to have a calf on November 21. Edith was not the only dairy animal I brought to the fair. I brought a calf named Shadee (born December 20, 2010) and a cow named Sprinkles (born March 19, 2006).
- Shadee
- Sprinkles
I really like showing dairy animals along with my pigs.
