Ingredients
- 6 egg yolks, slightly beaten
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 6 cups milk, 2% or whole
- 3/4 cup coffee liqueur
- 2 tablespoons instant espresso coffee powder or instant coffee powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- whipped cream, optional
- Shaved chocolate, optional

Instructions
In large, heavy saucepan whisk together egg yolks and sugar. Whisk in milk, coffee liqueur, espresso powder and nutmeg. Cook, whisking frequently, over medium heat until mixture registers 175° F on instant read thermometer (mixture will just coat a metal spoon). Do not boil. Remove from heat.
Briskly whisk or use an immersion blender to froth milk mixture.
Ladle into eight 10-ounce mugs. If desired, top with whipped cream and shaved chocolate.
