Protecting Our Water Supply
One thing I really enjoy about living on a dairy farm in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is the wildlife, woods and water God has provided around us. I pass by this beautiful creek when I walk for exercise. There is not one time I walk by that I don’t pause a moment and marvel at its beauty and listen to the peaceful babbling sound it makes.
We do our best on our dairy farm to preserve the land and water that we have around us. The milk on our farm is cooled by water in a plate cooler (it works kind of like a car’s radiator). After this water cools the milk, it is not discarded but pumped into a big tank. From the big tank it is pumped into the cows’ waterers so they can drink it. The cows put the water to good use by using it to produce milk!
You can see other ways dairy farmers care for the water and land here.
