It's about progress, not perfection, and we can all keep improving. 🌟

Each of us can help reduce food waste a little by keeping produce and dairy (+ expiration dates) visible near the front of the fridge, freezing near-spoiling foods (life hack: try freezing near-expiration milk in ice cube trays — you can drop the cubes in your coffee or smoothies!), and incorporating foods we might otherwise waste into recipes/snacks/smoothies we're already making throughout the week!

🐄 Cows Upcycle: Michigan’s dairy farmers are innovative recyclers and feed cows byproducts from other industries that would otherwise be sent to a landfill. (Examples of these leftovers include cotton seed and orange pulp, which are surprisingly nutritious for cows!)

🚜 On-Farm Technology: New technologies in precision agriculture, data analytics, and more are enabling farmers to improve efficiency and reduce waste to meet their sustainability goals. (For example, sensors that monitor cow health and productivity can help farmers optimize feed and water consumption.)

💡 Cow Power: On some farms, manure can be converted into electricity and renewable natural gas to heat and power facilities and communities.

🤝 Progress: On a dairy farm today, you could see GHG reduction, water conservation, energy efficiency, and much more. There is always more to do, but dairy farmers are determined to keep improving.

Take this great food waste-reducing tip from @livingplanetfriendly this Earth Month!! 🌎 🥛

Don’t waste that almost-expired gallon of milk in your fridge, make yogurt instead!

How to make Greek Yogurt:
Add milk to a large pot over medium heat and stir until simmering. Use a digital thermometer to check the temperature, which should reach 180°F. Remove from heat and stir occasionally. Let the yogurt cool down to 115°F.Take a cup of milk and whisk 2-3 tablespoons of yogurt with active and live cultures. Add to the dutch oven and stir well to mix evenly. Close the lid and place your dutch oven in the (off) oven with the light on for 8-10 hours until the yogurt is set.Once the yogurt is set, strain through a cheesecloth over a colander and bowl in the fridge for 12 hours. Transfer to an airtight container and enjoy!

1️⃣ Chocolate milk is the perfect hack for refueling fast after a workout — especially when it feels much easier for me to grab a glass when I get home than it is to shake up a protein shake before my shower. It has the perfect balance of carbs and 8g of protein your body needs at that point.
