Detroit Piston Saddiq Bey Celebrates Black History Month with Story Time
(DETROIT, MI February 25, 2022) Professional basketball athlete, Saddiq Bey of the Detroit Pistons has partnered with Milk Means More as a dairy and sports nutrition spokesperson. Saddiq celebrated Black History Month by participating in Milk Means More’s latest event, Breakfast and a Book, a 3-part book series geared towards students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade, where he got the chance to virtually read a story about diversity to adorable little ones all over the Detroit area as they watched and listened from their classrooms.
Bey, who joined Aaron Scott, Youth Wellness Specialist at Milk Means More, during the live 30-minute event, read the book “All Are Welcome” by Alexandra Penfold, which follows a group of children through a day at school, while celebrating diversity and giving encouragement to all children. Bey also discussed the students’ favorite breakfast foods and answered questions during the event.
Scott discussed how the event was truly amazing. “I enjoyed how engaged Saddiq was with the audience. His responses to the students’ questions were awesome,” said Scott. “I chose the book “All Are Welcome” because I love the message it sends on the importance of diversity, and how we are all welcome in all spaces in life. I believe if we showcase more books on diversity in the early stages of childhood, we will begin to see a greater impact in our communities and work places.”
The final part in Milk Means More Breakfast and a Book series will be held on Friday, March 11, at 9:30am EST. It will feature author Carol McCloud reading “Have You Filled a Bucket Today?”, a story that encourages students to express kindness, appreciation, and love by filling other’s buckets and their own bucket. McCloud will talk about her goal to inspire individuals to grow in kindness, self-control, resilience and forgiveness. The event will be held live on Milk Means More Facebook and YouTube pages.
