Kids, a dairy farm, and dirty laundry
My daughter is home from college for the summer, and my son is done with high school now, too. They are happy to be home doing all the work that comes in spring and summer.
And, my washing machine will get much use! This morning I have already washed two loads of filthy work clothes and at the end of the day, the dirty clothes basket will have more in it again! But, today this makes me thankful for all the productivity going on around our farm.
These grimy and stinky clothes represent hard work, confidence, reaching a goal, and also healthy bodies that are able to work!
I am so thankful to live on a farm and to have the opportunity to raise my children here!
This morning, Steve and Levi are taking care of the cows – feeding them and cleaning the barns. Jacob is out in the field working, and Anne is checking for new calves. I’m thankful for my dirty laundry and all it stands for – of spring and summer time and a new cycle of growing crops, and of hard, satisfying work that will produce good character in my children.
Thank you, God, for placing us on a dairy farm!
