Introducing 2020 U.S. Olympic Hopeful Swimmer, Gabby DeLoof!
Yes, winter is coming, but we’ve got our eyes on next summer. Specifically, the 2020 Summer Olympic games in Tokyo. That’s because we’ve partnered with MilkLife to support Michigan native and Team USA hopeful, Gabby DeLoof.
Gabby grew up in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. She started swimming when she was seven years old, after seeing how much fun her older sister, Ali, was having on the swim team. Gabby’s parents thought swimming was a great sport for their four children, so Ali, Gabby and two younger sisters, Catie and Jackie, all swim competitively.
Recruited as a backstroke specialist to the University of Michigan, Gabby graduated with her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sports Management in December 2018. While there, she swam with all three of her sisters on the UM team. During her college career, Gabby was a five-time Big Ten champion, five-time NCAA All-American, a team captain, and a 2018 Pan Pacific Championships qualifier.
At the World University Games this summer, Gabby won five gold medals and broke the meet record in the 4×100 freestyle relay with her sister, Catie. At the World Championships in July, she won a silver medal as part of the Team USA women’s 4×200 freestyle relay.
Gabby now lives and trains in San Diego, focusing on the 100- and 200-meter freestyle and earning a spot on Team USA for swimming at the 2020 Olympics.
“My journey to earn a spot on Team USA started right here in Michigan, and I know fueling with milk will help me continue to train at the highest level,” said Gabby. “It’s really important for me to get the right mix of nutrients in my diet, including high-quality protein. I have always relied on milk to help fuel my training routine every day – so I’m proud to be on Team Milk!”
One of Gabby’s favorite ways to use milk is in smoothies for a snack or recovery smoothie after a workout. She also eats cereal and milk as a late night snack sometimes and always has a glass of milk with her dinner.
Team Milk is a growing group of U.S. Olympians, Paralympians and hopefuls all over the country, including DeLoof, who are fueled by milk. Through the Milk Life campaign’s sponsorship of Team USA, milk companies and dairy councils across the country, like UDIM, are able to support their local U.S. Olympic and Paralympic hopeful athletes as they train to earn a spot on Team USA.
