Milk

The benefits of milk

There’s more to a glass of milk than meets the eye. In each eight-ounce serving, you’ll find nine essential nutrients your body needs to work properly. Milk is a good or excellent source of protein, calcium, vitamins A and D, vitamin B12, riboflavin (B2), niacin, phosphorus, and pantothenic acid.

Now that’s something to raise your glass to!

Remember to aim for 2 to 3 servings a day – it’s the official recommendation from the 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Those 2 to 3 servings a day will help you build strong bones, keep your heart healthy, your weight in check, and reduce your risk of diabetes. All-in-all, milk has an important role to play in maintaining a healthy, happy you.

Find the milk that works for you

No matter your preference, there is an option for you in the dairy aisle. From conventional to organic, fat-free to whole, cow’s milk is a wholesome, natural beverage you and your family can (and should!) enjoy throughout the day.

How does cow’s milk compare to the alternatives out there?

When it comes to dairy alternatives, most fall short in comparison to cow’s milk. Most milk alternatives contain less protein and have to be fortified with calcium to match the same amounts naturally present in cow’s milk. In most instances, the ingredient list of milk alternative beverages is also longer while cow’s milk only contains 2-3 ingredients.

5 Easy ways to add milk to your day

With milk, it’s easy to add extra nutrition to your day. For most Americans, looking for ways to add three servings of dairy is ideal to support health and wellness. Not sure where to begin? Here are five easy ways to get more milk into your day:

  • Use milk instead of water when you make a tasty bowl of oatmeal.
  • Fluff up your scrambled eggs by adding a splash of milk.
  • Add milk to your favorite cup of coffee or tea.
  • Always include milk when you whip up an early morning smoothie. It’s a great way to give your morning pick-me-up a protein boost.
  • And the easiest way to add milk to your day? Pour yourself a cold, refreshing glass to enjoy with dinner.
