Cows and college
Over lunch the other day, my 5 and 6 year olds were asking me about college.
They wanted to know if I had gone.
I told them yes, I did.
Then they wanted to know if I graduated.
Yes, I did.
Their next question was what I had gone for. I started to tell them that I wanted to be a lawyer when I grew up, so I was taking classes for that, but I met daddy, fell in love, and decided an associate degree was good enough.
I didn’t get much further than the word lawyer when they wanted to know what that was. After a little chuckle to myself, and a debate in my head over whether or not I should give them a lawyer joke for an answer, or the truth, I decided for my own credibility I should tell them the truth. I explained that just like mommy and daddy have rules for them, adults have rules to follow as well and sometimes those rules are really hard to understand. A lawyer’s job is to know all those rules, and exactly what they mean in every situation, and to help people understand them.
To my surprise, they were in complete awe, and after mulling it over for a few minutes they then looked at me and said, “So, you decided to milk cows, instead?!”
I laughed, and with a huge smile on my face I answered, “YES!”
And, I couldn’t be happier if I tried!
