Happy New Year! Well, we are almost a full month into our new year and hopefully you are getting used to writing 2013. As for me, I am looking forward to wrapping up January and February. I don’t want to sound like a pessimist but the end of February signals several things for me.
First, I have made it through yet another busy season and survived. My husband and I luckily have our busy seasons at different times. His is in the summer, mine is from November through February. Obviously the holidays are in those months but, as the accountant for our family farm, so are pre-tax planning meetings, tax preparation, finalizing year-end, business analysis and taxes.
And if that weren’t enough to make my head spin, I am responsible for a fundraiser for our elementary buildings in our school district. I set up a Mom & Son Date Night four years ago to raise money for our school foundation that in turn gives money through grant requests back to our schools. It’s similar to a Daddy Daughter dance, but geared towards boys. We have sports teams come in and interact with the moms and their boys, have dinner and a movie, a couple’s picture and prize give-a-ways.
Second, the end of February signals a sign of spring. In Michigan, you can’t really get excited because March usually says “1st Day of Spring.” But it’s a sign of hope. It’s a sign that warmer weather is certainly getting closer and the guys will be getting geared up to get in the fields in April, thus starting my husband’s busy season. It’s probably a good thing we have opposite busy times so we can be there and help and support each other.
Sometimes when you can’t see past what is right in front of your face, it’s helpful to know there is daylight at the end of the tunnel!
