- 4 cups fat-free, 2% or whole milk
- 1/2 cup chocolate or dark chocolate syrup
- 2 teaspoons Chinese 5-spice powder
- Whipped cream, optional
- 4 whole star anise, optional
In a medium saucepan, combine milk, chocolate syrup and 5-spice powder. Cook, stirring frequently, over medium heat until hot. Do not boil.
Ladle into four 10- to 12-ounce mugs. Top with whipped cream and star anise, if desired. If using star anise for garnish, remove it before drinking.
To make in a hot cocoa maker: In 60-ounce hot cocoa maker container, combine milk, chocolate syrup and 5-spice powder. Cover and prepare according to manufacturer’s directions for high-speed heat-and-froth. Serve as directed above.
