Happy Birthday, America!
The 4th of July brings about celebration and the four F’s – food, family, fun and fireworks. This past week was no different for us on the farm.
We had an entire week of putting up 220 acres of hay. It was our 2nd cutting and it took all week because of the weather – rain here and there or enough dew that the guys couldn’t start early enough.
Once they were done putting it in the bunker silo, we covered the bunker with plastic and then laid sidewall tires from semi tires on to hold it down. And yes, if you are wondering, this is a family job. We let the employees go home and did it as a family.
Well, after a very long grueling week, we had our fun, too! Brad & Mark’s sister, Lori, and her family came to camp at the family pond and so did Mark and Sara, and their family and cousin, Jonathan. We took time to enjoy food, family, fun, laughter, and lots of fireworks.
We ended the week’s activities with having a half-birthday party for Zach. He was born on Christmas morning so we celebrate around the 4th of July so he has his own day. Of course, I have to show you the Spring Fruit Trifle I made, because it was all gone at night’s end.
Hope you and your family had a great 4th of July and a safe one, too!
